Shakespeare Team Auditions: August 20, 2026 After School.
**IE Challenge Round for Productions Company on September 2nd**
WHAT: Brighton's Shakespeare Team is one of the greatest experiences you will have in high school. The Shakespeare Team consists of 1 ensemble scene, 3 monologues, and 2 duo/trio scenes. This team will compete at the Utah Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City October 1-3, 2026. This year we will be performing a piece from Twelfth Night. The story of love triangles, confusion, and chaos.

The Utah Shakespeare Festival's annual High School Shakespeare Competition gathers students from more than 110 schools in 9 states, and is the only inter-state drama competition in the area. Team members benefit not only from being adjudicated by professional actors and directors from across the country, but are also given the opportunity to see professional theatre. Brighton High Theatre has placed 2nd Overall Sweepstakes for the last 3 years, winning the distinguished Larry Lott Award for 2 of those years.

How to Audition for Ensemble: If you are interested in auditioning for any spot on the team, find any 1 minute Shakespeare monologue from www.shakespeare-monologues.org and do your best at auditions! You do not need to be memorized if you are doing a general audition. Anyone is welcome and everyone who auditions for the Ensemble piece will be put on the team as long as you can make every rehearsal and there are no more than 28-32 students. This year we do not have enough room to take more than 32 at the maximum due to hotel space. If we have more auditions than spots, we will have to cut students from the team. Auditioning does not guarantee a spot, nor does being on the team in the past, or being on the productions company.
WHEN: All Rehearsals for the Ensemble scene will be held during occasional APP Periods and primarily Saturdays August 22-September 26, 8-1pm (You may not be needed the whole duration of the time). You must be at every Saturday rehearsal. We only have 5 rehearsal days to prepare for competition. There is one last dress rehearsal on Wednesday September 30 from 3-6pm. Individual Events will be rehearsing during 1st period Productions Company and a few Flex rehearsals. Once we return from the competition, Brighton will host a Shakespeare Night on Monday October 5 for the community at 7pm.
This year's competition will be held October 1-3 in Cedar City, UT. The trip will cost approximately $350-400 per participant and includes transportation, hotel, food, team hoodie, play tickets, and entrance fees. We are working to organize a fundraiser for the theatre department to help ease the cost of attending competition this year, but it is not gauranteed.

- How to Audition for Individual Events (Students in Productions Company Trimester 1 Only): Students enrolled in the Productions Company Trimester 1 class will be given a monologue or scene to perform at the “Challenge Round”. You will be given your pieces the first week of school and will compete for the competition spots on September 2nd. (This is very quick due to the scene submission deadline being September 4th.) 2 scenes and 3 monologues will be chosen to compete based on performance criteria and preparedness for the competition. Some students who do not make it past the challenge round will be asked to be specific pieces coaches for the duration of the competition. What: The Brighton High Performing Arts Department works together once a year to bring the community together for a musical theatre performance. This year we will be performing Disney's Newsies. Rehearsals begin August 31- December 2 2026 with performances December 3-5. Everyone who auditions will be cast. This is our biggest Theatre event of the year.
Who: ANYONE! Auditions are open to everyone. All roles are open except for the role of Teddy Roosevelt and everyone who completes one form of audition will be cast. If you would like to be considered for a featured role or lead, you must be enrolled in the 5th period Musical Theatre Class 1st Trimester. There is no limit to the number of students in the class. Students who participate will have a one time fee of $50 (fee-waivers accepted). OPEN TO ALBION AND BUTLER MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS AS WELL!

CALLBACKS August 28th: (3-7pm) will be posted after dance auditions on the cast list page of this website, if you are invited to callbacks you will be provided with slides to prepare. Please be prepared to dance as well. A FULL CAST LIST will be posted no later than Saturday at 12 am.
